U.S. Army Veteran Held Long Career With Norfolk Southern Railway

Norman “Ray” Hennessee, 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Ray was born in Chattanooga, on March 22, 1947, the son of the late Mark Hennessee and Aliene Wilson Hennessee. He proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Ray retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after many years of service. He was an avid TN Vols fan and enjoyed golf and watching animals.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his siblings, Sybil Aliene Hennessee, Robert Paul Hennessee, M.A. Hennessee, Joyce Hester Sylar, Ruth Marie Hennessee, Shirley Ann Moore, and Wayne Hennessee.

Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Anderson (Eddie), Leslie Summitt (Jamie), and Kerry Whitener (Scott); grandchildren, Chelsey Hernandez (Anthony), Cole Anderson (Morgan), Kassedy Whitener, Wyatt Whitener, Lara Summitt, and John Summitt; great-grandchildren, Rene Hernandez and Isabella Anderson; and four siblings, Linda Campbell (David), Wanda Graham, Terrell Hennessee (Nancy), and Jane Clay (Mike).

Graveside and interment services will be on Thursday, June 13, at 2 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
