Opening Of African American Education And Heritage Museum Is Saturday

The Alton Park Development Corporation will host its inaugural Juneteenth celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the African American Education and Heritage Museum on Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. It will be at the Chattanooga Civic Center at Mountainside, 701 Hooker Road.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. Afterwards there will be presentations from the Howard Hustling Tigers Marching Band and Dance Team and a solo presentation from African drummer Mawre Kofi from Ghana West Africa.

Tours of the first phase of the museum will be offered to dignitaries from 10:45-11:45 a.m. and to the public from 1-3 p.m. 

Live entertainment will take place on the APDC ballfield and park at 701 Hooker Road. People may enroll in the African history educational courses onsite with instructor Harold Bryson, M.ED. Mr. Bryson has taught African history for more than five decades.

Live entertainment will include African drum classes and African dance classes taught  by instructor Kofi; petting zoo and pony rides by Noah's Little Ark; face painting; food; and live family-friendly music by WPTP 100.1 FM Radio DJ Robin Rhodes and Michael Sliman.

Bring tents, blankets, chairs and the family.
