Larry Wayne Hunter
The family of Larry Wayne Hunter, 81, of Hixson, Tennessee, sadly announces his passing in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 15, 2024.
He was born on March 17, 1943 in Madison, Tn. to Virgil Aaron Hunter and Elizabeth Boehms Hunter. Larry was married for 60 years to his college sweetheart, Mary Steve Penick Hunter. The couple raised two children, Missy Hunter Thompson (John Thompson) and Rev. Larry Wayne “Chip” Hunter (Debbie Hunter), and lived in several cities in Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida before settling in Hixson in 2011.
A man of faith and a member of Hixson United Methodist Church. Larry enjoyed a successful 47-year career in the banking industry before retiring in 2011. His involvement with the American Banking Association allowed him to continue his education in programs at UT, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and LSU. An avid sports enthusiast and outdoorsman, Larry played baseball at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tennessee, and continued playing various sports including softball, tennis, and golf throughout his adult life. Growing up fishing and hunting with his father, Larry was happy to find a good spot on a September afternoon in the dove field or in pursuit of largemouth bass. Larry made many friends during the last few years at Everlan of Hixson, where he was often seen zipping around the dining room to speak with his fellow residents.
A devoted family man, Larry is survived by his wife Stevie, two children, Missy Hunter Thompson (John Thompson) and Rev. Larry Wayne “Chip” Hunter (Debbie Hunter), four grandchildren, Kendall B. Thompson, Emily E. Thompson, Miranda M. Hunter, and Trenton S. Hunter. He also leaves behind a beloved sister, Connie Hunter Adcox, brother-in-law David Acock, and several nieces and nephews.
