John Cary Coppock, 92, of Rock Spring, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024.

He was born to the late Paul and Gladys Black Coppock on June 12, 1932 in Memphis, Tn., where he graduated from Central High School, and he attended UT Knoxville and Tennessee Polytechnic in Cookeville, Tennessee. John was a United States Army veteran serving as a guided missile mechanic. He retired in 1985 from Memphis Light Gas and Water where he was one of the initial employees who created their first Computer Programming System. He also worked at Seabrook Wall Covering in Memphis for 15 years. He attended Epworth United Methodist Church in his early years and was a member, along with his wife, at Grimes United Methodist Church in Memphis. He moved to Rock Spring, Ga., in 2012 with his wife to be close to his family. He enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, and was a ham radio operator. John and Peggy enjoyed extensive travel, and John was also a scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America and an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan.

John was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Coppock, and sister, Mabel Major.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Peggy Leniece Edwards Coppock, daughter, Suzanne (Jerry) Reaves, son, Cary Coppock, two sisters, Gladys Wood and Dorothy Hopps, three grandchildren, Hunter Dalton Reaves, Colton John Reaves, and Mark Aaron Coppock; three great grandchildren, Sophie Kapri Reaves, Nolan Dalton Reaves, and Caroline Katherine Reaves, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel from 10 a.m. until the funeral service hour on Saturday.

A private interment will be held Tuesday at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tn.
