Tivoli Theatre Foundation Completes Annual Education Outreach

  • Tuesday, July 30, 2024
The Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s education programs – TivEd, The Jewel Awards, and Camp Broadway - offered in 2023-2024, impacted more than 600 students throughout the greater Chattanooga community.

With an ABC vision, Always Be Creative, The Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s Second Century of Performing Arts in Chattanooga includes year-round education for students and teachers.

TivEd educates, enriches and empowers through the performing arts with learning opportunities for more than 200 students during the Broadway series and other performances.

The Jewel Awards, the only regional awards program in the area, evaluates high school theatre programs, offering access to community building and learning while creating theatrical productions.
At the first annual Jewel Awards, seven area schools and more than 350 students gained feedback on their productions. The schools included: Boyd-Buchanan School, Chattanooga Christian School, Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, Christian Heritage School, East Hamilton High School, Grace Academy and Signal Mountain High School.

Two students from Christian Heritage School in Dalton, Jazhel Arostegui and Gracia Wright, competed in the National High School Musical Theatre Awardsã – the Jimmy Awardsã – in New York City. The two students’ experience was completed with their Broadway debut at the Minskoff Theatre during the Jimmy Awards ceremony.

In its second year, Camp Broadway at the Memorial Auditorium involves 48 campers who participate in the two-week musical theatre intensive and one-week technical theatre intensive training. Lamont J. Whitaker, an actor and director, returned to Camp Broadway and conducted master classes for the campers. This is his third event with the Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s education department, previously teaching classes through TivEd and The Jewel Awards.

"As the Tivoli Theatre Foundation embraces the Second Century, our vision is only limited by the ability to be imaginative when bringing the performing arts to life," officials said.
