On Friday evening, August 2, 2024, after a long battle with a terminal illness, Dan L. Taylor, Jr., age 81, passed away to be with his heavenly Father.

Dan was born in Oklahoma City to Marketa and Dan Taylor, Sr. He attended Oklahoma University and was a member of the marching band, having won a scholarship as outstanding drum major in Oklahoma. He left college and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served in Vietnam.

Dan was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church, VVA Chapter 203, VFW, 12th TFW and the Medal of Honor Museum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rheta Joiner and a son, Brian Taylor.

Dan is survived by his wife, Ann and they were married over 40 years living in Middle Valley. He is also survived by his sons, Vince (Shawnda) of Joplin, MO, and Mark of Sedona, Az.; daughters, Cathy Collins (Tim) of Hixson and Lisa Dennis (Chris) of Soddy Daisy; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, and Friday, from 10-11 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Services for Dan will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the North Chapel with Dr. David McNabb, Reverend Ken Young and Chaplin George Woodruff, Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors furnished by VVA Chapter 203.

Pallbearers are Tim and Eric Collins, Josh and Adam Kirby, Chris Dennis and Jeff Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class of Dallas Bay Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s name to the Dallas Bay Church.
