Lee University’s School of Music will host Dr. Josh Holritz, violin, and Dr. Peter Cooper, piano, for a faculty and guest artist recital on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Hall, in the Humanities Center.

The performance will feature Ludwig van Beethoven's “Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 7 in C minor” and Richard Strauss's “Sonata for Violin and Piano.”

“I look forward to this collaboration with Dr. Peter Cooper, as we perform two wonderful sonatas by Beethoven and Strauss,” said Dr. Holritz.

Hailed as “particularly outstanding”, violinist and violist Dr. Holritz enjoys a varied career spanning the gamut of performing and teaching. He began his tenure with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra when he was appointed as the concertmaster in September 2022. Dr. Holritz also serves as the associate concertmaster of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, a position he has held since 2014.

Dr. Holritz is dedicated to training the next generation of musicians and currently serves as adjunct instructor of violin and viola at Lee University, adjunct instructor of violin at Southern Adventist University, and adjunct professor at Covenant College where he teaches violin, viola, and chamber music. He is also currently a faculty artist for the Bay View Music Festival.

Dr. Holritz received his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Georgia, his Master of Music from the University of Minnesota, and his Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Dr. Cooper is interim dean of the School of Music at Southern Adventist University, where he teaches piano and music theory. Whether teaching or performing, Dr. Cooper is committed to fostering an appreciation of artistic beauty and desires to share his faith through music.

Dr. Cooper received his Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance at the University of Michigan and both his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.

The Wednesday evening recital is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. The event will also be available for livestream viewing at leeu.live.
