John David Hangstefer
John David Hangstefer, 42, of Chattanooga went to be with Jesus on January 10, 2025.
John was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.
He was Chief Operations Officer at Walter A. Wood Industrial Co. and was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church. He also continued to be involved in the tennis community after he played collegiate tennis at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he received his Bachelors degree in Business as well as his MBA.
John excelled at many things, but undoubtedly he shined most as a loving father to his daughter, Jane, and devoted husband to his wife, Erin. All who knew him would agree, it was obvious that Erin was the love of his life and Jane, his greatest treasure. You would not often find him sitting down but rather working, playing tennis, running, hunting, building legos or working a puzzle, fishing, traveling, feeding his chickens, playing or wrestling with his nieces and nephews or working on the house. However if you did find him sitting, he would likely be reading the paper or watching sports with a toothpick in his mouth.
He was everything our world needs more of: a lover of Christ, a hard worker, generous, a gentle love of animals, playful with children, smart, humble and FUN! John came to know the Lord at a young age and continued to prioritize and further his relationship with Christ with steadfast love and discipline. His favorite book of the Bible was James, which he had memorized by heart.
John will be missed dearly by so many, but especially by his family. His loss leaves such a gaping hole that will never truly be filled.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Erin Kelly Hangstefer of almost 18 years; his adored daughter Jane; parents, Jim and Patricia Hangstefer; brothers, Jim (Alexandra) Hangstefer, Michael Hangstefer, Daniel Hangstefer, sisters, Katie (Mark) Mancebo and Emily Hangstefer; parents-in-law, John and Suzanne Kelly; sisters-in-law, Lauren (Tommy) Sedman and Sheena (John) Gamble; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Brainerd Baptist Church (300 Brookfield Ave., Chattanooga, Tn 37411) with Dr. Curtis Hill officiating.
There will be a reception to follow at the BX.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of John to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home.
