Betty Katherine McDonald, 84, peacefully departed this life on January 5, 2025, at a local health care facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Betty was born on April 1, 1940, to Mr. Walter Few and Mrs. Louise Few.

Born and educated in the Chattanooga Public School System, Betty dedicated over 30 years of her life to hard work and service, both at Howard Johnson and as a private housekeeper in the Chattanooga area.

A devoted member of Thorns and Crowns Ministry, Betty's faith and love for her community were evident to all who knew her. From Alton Park (Southside) to the West Side, Betty was cherished by many. Known for her incredible cakes and culinary skills, she brought joy to countless gatherings.

Betty found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed sitting on her porch, engaging in conversations with neighbors, and watching children play. Visits from her children and grandchildren brought her immense joy. Her afternoons were often spent immersed in her favorite soap operas, lovingly referred to as “The Stories,” including All My Children and Days of Our Lives.

Betty loved to iron and took pride in ensuring everything was perfectly pressed, even her pillowcases. She had a vibrant spirit and couldn’t resist moving her shoulders and bending her knees to the rhythm of a good song.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Louise Few; her sons, Tyrone Stewart, Sr., and Tony Few; her grandsons, Anthony Simon, Tyrone Stewart Jr., and Antonio Few; her granddaughter, Toninica Few; and her sisters, Lucille Few Womble, Vienna Few, and Martha Ann Few Adams.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her two daughters, Jackie (Stanley) Hubbard and Linda (Greg) Arnold; two sons, Michael (Verdell) Stewart and Roy (Rhonda) Richardson; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter (Osceola) Few, Jr., and Alphonso Varnell Few; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and the West Side community.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Funeral services will follow immediately in the chapel of the funeral home.

Betty Katherine McDonald will be forever remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. She will be greatly missed.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
