Archie David “Track” Reeves Jr., age 81, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday, January 16, 2025, after a long illness.

Born on March 13, 1943, to the late Archie David Reeves Sr. (Alabama) and Annie Laura Evans Reeves (Chattanooga), Archie transitioned from this earthly life into eternal glory with Christ, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service.

Archie was raised in the Shepherd Community and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960, where he excelled both academically and athletically. A talented multi-sport athlete, he shined in baseball, basketball, and especially football. Known as “Track” for his skill in “tracking down” opposing quarterbacks, he earned a football scholarship to Fisk University in Nashville, where he attended for one year.

After returning to Chattanooga, Archie embarked on a career defined by hard work, dedication, and leadership. He worked at Mueller and General Electric as a machinist and member of the IBEW union. He advocated for other employees as a union steward. As a union representative, he championed better working conditions, equitable treatment, and fair pay. His reputation as a mediator and advocate earned him the trust and respect of both coworkers and management. He began his second career at the Tennessee Valley Authority, serving at Widows Creek and Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and retired in 2014, from the Mechanical Maintenance Group (MMG).

Archie’s love of the outdoors included fishing, hunting, and boating on Chickamauga Lake in his younger years. However, his greatest passion was his faith. A devout Christian, he found immense joy in studying the Bible, sharing God’s word, and serving others. He volunteered at the local nursing home Standifer Place and preached wherever he found an audience. Known for quoting scripture with a booming voice, his favorite verse was Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” He also said, “there is something special about that right hand.”

In retirement, Archie remained active in his church, East Cleveland Seventh-day Adventist, and cherished time spent with his family, friends, and fellow retirees at the YMCA Hamilton Place branch. His unwavering devotion to his wife and family was evident in every aspect of his life, as he consistently prioritized their well-being and happiness.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Annie Laura Reeves Sr.; his sister, Celeste Reeves; his brother, LeBron N. Reeves; and his children, Michael Reeves, Archie Terrance Reeves, Karen Reeves, and Amie Reeves.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 42 years, Millie Williams Reeves; his sisters, Marie Cook, Mona Reeves Winfrey, and Yvonne Reeves; and his children, Lolita Eberhart, Sindy (Marcus) Tankersley, Otis (Stacey) Rumph Jr., and Arcie D. Reeves, all of Chattanooga, Wendell (Jean) Glass of Atlanta, Georgia, Karris (Terr’ell) Robinson of Mableton, Georgia, Brian Reeves of Nashville, Tennessee and his spiritual son and caregiver Brother Steve Johnson.

He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jasmine Eberhart, Chelsey McGowan, Marcus Tankersley Jr., Markenzie Tankersley, Wendell Glass Jr., Camryn Glass, Cortez Rumph, LaDarius Rumph, Kingston Rumph, Raleigh Eberhart, Isiah Lewis Jr., Brianna Reeves, and Tatum James Robinson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
