Nannie Katherine Cosey, 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at her residence in Chattanooga.

She was born on Sept. 17, 1933, in Madison County, Al., to Ernest Cosey and Nannie Petty.

She was a faithful member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and a beloved part of Sunday school class #11, also known as Vessels of Grace.

Nannie was a part of the inaugural class of students at the Cornerstone Christian Correspondence School and Chattanooga State College, receiving her GED on Oct. 16, 2003. She was employed with the Newton Child Development Center for over 15 years. Nannie, also called “Granny,” loved being a grandma, not only to her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but to others as well. She was also a foster grandparent for over 30 years to several special kids.

Watching her favorite TV shows brought her much delight and entertainment. She loved to ride around town sightseeing. Granny also loved to scratch off bingo lottery tickets.

Granny will always be the best in our hearts and minds. We thank our Heavenly Father for the time she was allowed to be shared with us. Our Granny was a blessing indeed.

Nannie was preceded in death by both her parents; her daughter, Venora Ann Cosey Bornge; sister, Emma Cato; brother, James Melvin Cosey, Sr.; grandsons, Reginald and Eddie Hitchcock, and Eric Cosey.

She leaves precious memories to her two granddaughters, Bridgette Hitchcock and Michaela Borngne; great-grandchildren, ReSheda, Shannon, Robert Shannon III, Tamra Turnbow, Kelmeshia Turnbow, Kaneisha Turnbow, Eddie, Jr, Leontae, Kyanna, and Noah Hitchcock, Shareef, Jr, and Bre Ar-Rahmaan; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Cora Cosey; best friend, Diane Williams.

Public viewing will be from 10 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Jan. 9, followed immediately by the celebration of life at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3777 Wilcox Blvd.

Interment will follow at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
