Washington State native and former collegiate football player Tucker Wetmore, who traded his cleats for Nashville after a career ending injury, lands his first ever #1 hit at country radio with ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’.
The slow but steady climb on the Billboard Hot Country Chart began charting in mid-2024 and made it to the top 20 by fall of that year, and etched its way to the top a few days into 2025.
Wetmore took to Instagram (posting a picture of himself as a young kid) and talked about the achievement.
“I have been dreaming of and working towards this moment for as long as I can remember and to be able to check that box off today leaves me nothing short of thankful,” he said.
Signed to University Music Group, Wetmore played to a sold-out crow at Chattanooga’s Barrelhouse Ballroom in October, with a sing-every-word fan-base that engaged with Wetmore from start to finish. Wetmore’s 8-song EP, ‘Waves On A Sunset’ released only two days prior to his Chattanooga show.
“You would not believe what is happening at my shows, with the crowd singing back every one of my songs so loud that I can barely hear the music in my ear monitors. I can’t quite wrap my head around how fast this thing is hitting,” said Wetmore.
Not only is Wetmore’s music taking off quickly with his fanbase, but the country music industry recognized he is lifting off with something special. MusicRow.com named Wetmore a 2025 ‘Next Big Thing Artist’, and he is set to open for Thomas Rhett’s “Better in Boots Tour” this summer.
Wetmore’s own headlining tour, “Waves On A Sunset Tour” kicks back in gear in West Palm Beach, Florida, March 1, and moves to internationally to Europe March 8.
