Cleveland State split their double header with Roane State, winning two out of three in their series.

"Always good to win a conference series," Cleveland State head baseball coach Aaron Bryant said.

Cleveland State (4-7, 2-1) won game one of the day 7-5 against the Raiders (7-2, 1-2). The Cougars were up 7-1 heading into the final two innings before the Raiders put together a rally that fell short.

Designated hitter Ty Denton tripled and scored a run. Shortstop Jon Jon Read went 3-3 and scored three times. Centerfielder Nate Dunfee and leftfielder Daniel Reyes each drove in two runs.

Turner Junkins (1-0) earned the victory pitching five innings allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out six and walking three. Logan Bryson threw the final two innings striking out four.

"We got two really good outings on the mound by starters Junkins and Owens," Bryant said.

Roane State took game two 3-1 with Max Owens (1-1) suffering the loss, but he threw well going five innings allowing an earned run on four hits while striking out two and walking five. Tyler Pickens and Eric Enerlich each pitched an inning.

"Their starter was also really good in game two," Bryant said. "He had us off balance and had a good mix, and we still had the tying run on base in the last inning and that's all you ask for is a chance to win."

Grady Parsons (3-0) pitched a complete for the Raiders allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out six and walking a batter. Rightfielder Caleb Gipson drove in third baseman Evan Goins for the Cougars only run, and Read doubled in the game.

The Cougars return home for their next time on the field hosting Brett Carroll Academy in a double header with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
