The Pi Omega and Zeta Kappa Chapters announce their upcoming celebration of the 117th Founders’ Day, marking the beginning of Pi Omega’s Centennial celebrations.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., is the oldest Greek letter organization established for African American women.
Officials said, "The sorority is built on the principles of 'Sisterhood, Scholarship and Service to All Humankind.' This event will honor the significant contributions of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to the Chattanooga community and beyond.
"Pi Omega was chartered on June 25, 1925, by five extraordinary women dedicated to improving the lives of residents through education, health and social justice initiatives.
Continuing this mission to serve all mankind, Pi Omega empowers local young women through scholarships and cultural enrichment programs, such as the triannual Fashionetta event. Additionally, they operate the Pi Omega Community Room in the Emma Wheeler Homes Community Center, serving one of Chattanooga's most underserved communities. Their Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (AKA CHIPP) also provides weekend and holiday meals for children at Chattanooga Charter School."
The public is invited to attend the 117th Founders’ Day Celebration this Sunday at 3 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church. A reception will follow the event. The keynote speaker will be Madam Charletta Wilson Jacks, international first vice president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
"Pi Omega President LaTrice C. Leslie and Zeta Kappa President Ravyn Moore are excited to honor our community partners and those who help us make a difference in the lives of others. Celebrate this momentous occasion and the enduring legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated," officials said.
