Rex Kendle
Baylor wrestling coach and teacher Rex Kendle announced that he will be leaving Baylor at the end of the 2024-25 school year to join Great Lakes Land Holdings, a business owned by former wrestlers Gabe and Max Dean of Lowell, Mi.
A native of Edwardsburg, Mi., Coach Kendle has been Baylor’s head varsity coach since 2020. During his tenure, he has led the Raiders to seven dual and traditional state championships. In his 15 years as assistant/head coach with Baylor’s wrestling program, Coach Kendle has helped the team to bring home 15 dual and traditional state championships and 65 individual state titles. He has coached 168 all-state wrestlers, and 37 national prep All-Americans.
Coach Kendle was a two-year starter for Michigan State University and was a 2009 NCAA National Qualifier.
During his time at MSU, he served as the team captain, and he was ranked in the top 15 at 165 lbs. He holds a B.S. in science from MSU and also teaches chemistry at Baylor.
“I came to Baylor in 2010. It didn’t take me long to figure out that Baylor was a special place. The Baylor wrestling community is second to none and being part of the Baylor wrestling program has been the honor of my lifetime. I was fortune enough to come in when Jim Morgan and Schaak Van Deusen were still coaching. I worked with Ben Nelson for 10 years before taking over, said Coah Kendle. “Baylor wrestling will always be part of who I am at this point. I have enjoyed teaching chemistry just as much as I have enjoyed being part of the wrestling program. I will miss the daily interactions with the kids the most; I have been lucky to teach/coach a lot of really special kids.”
"Coach Kendle's efforts have yielded much success while coaching our wrestlers at Baylor. He truly understands the sport and its importance in the tradition of Baylor School,” added Baylor Athletic Director Mark Price. “Rex will be missed, and we wish him the very best as he pursues this next chapter in his life. We are committed to finding a replacement for him that will continue to build upon the excellence that embodies our school and wrestling program."
