The Lee University softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to Mississippi College on Friday afternoon. MC staged a comeback on game one winning 11-6 and then never trailed in the second game winning 5-3. Lee fell to 16-11 overall with the two losses and 4-9 in GSC play.
Game 1
The Lady Flames got on the board first with a leadoff home run from Alexa Scalzo. Lee added two more runs in the third inning when Rylie Goodridge drove in Scalzo and Javaria Smith to make it 3-0.
Mississippi College got on the board in the fifth with a run.
A throwing error from Pruitt-Geesey allowed the Choctaw run to score. MC took the lead with seven runs in the sixth inning. They had seven hits, a walk, and an error to score the runs.
Lee responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth when Alyson Jarvi hit a three-run home run to score Hailey Simco and Kaylee Wilson. But the Choctaws scored three more runs on three hits in the seventh to win it 11-6.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey got the start and went five innings and gave up three runs on four hits. Layne Bailey took the loss to go to 1-4 on the year as she went one-third of an inning and gave up five runs on five hits. Alaina Watson threw one and two-thirds of an inning and gave up three runs on three hits.
Offensively, Scalzo was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ana Macha added two hits as did Hailey Simco. Jarvi had three RBI on the home run.
Game 2
MC scored in the top of the first behind a double and a triple to take the 1-0 lead. The Choctaws added two more runs in the third. Two hits, an error and a sacrifice fly made it 3-0.
Mississippi College got the fourth run of the game on a sacrifice fly double play in the fifth inning. Lee finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. After Scalzo got a single and Javaria Smith got on by an error, Goodridge hit a three-run home run to make it 4-3. MC scored one more run in the seventh with a triple and then a single. Lee got two on base in the seventh but could not bring anyone home.
Madison Barnett went to the full seven innings and gave up five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. With the loss she dropped her record to 3-6. Goodridge was the only player to have multiple hits in game two as she had two with three RBI.
The Lady Flames will play the final game of the series on Saturday, March 15 at noon at Butler Field.
