Longtime Sunday School Teacher And Retired From Orange Grove Center

Altha Ruth Harris, 87, of Harrison, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tn.

A longtime resident of Harrison, she was a devoted member of Bayside Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years, had previously worked as a teacher’s aide at Harrison Elementary, was a member of the Eastern Star, and eventually retired in 1995 from Orange Grove Center where she worked as a workshop supervisor. She was also a loving “neighborhood mom” to generations of kids on Barchel Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Harris, her parents, Glover and Esther Horn, and her daughter-in-law, Linda Harris.

She is survived by her son, Patrick Harris, and her daughter, Julie Brandt, of Harrison, grandchildren, Jeremy Harris, Cassidy Harris (Hayden Jordan), and Hunter Brandt, of Chattanooga, and Anthony Brandt (Devin Smith) of Pensacola, Fl., and Jeremy (Sina) Brandt, of Gulfport, Ms., and great-grandchildren, Amelia Brandt, River Jordan, and Archer Brandt, as well as her niece, Angela Woolfall, and her loving pet companion, Lena.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Ministry at Bayside Baptist Church or Mckamey Animal Center. A special thank you to her health care providers and her loving neighbors for their longtime support and friendship.

A service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on April, 3, at 1 p.m.
