WaterWays, Hamilton County Parks & Partners Celebrate World Water Day With Litter Boom Installation On Citico Creek

Celebrate World Water Day, March 22, by seeing how local partners work to reduce the impact of litter in local creeks and streams with the installation of a floating litter boom on Citico Creek.
 
Representative Greg Vital, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, Hamilton County Parks Superintendent Matt Folz, WaterWays Founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Sutton, Thalika Hollingsworth, Source Water Protection Manager for Tennessee American Water Company, County officials and other partners will be on hand this Saturday at 11 a.m.
as they cut the ribbon on the unique device on Citico Creek near the Riverwalk  at the Tennessee American Water Company. 
 
Officials said, "World Water Day is held annually on March 22 to celebrate the importance of freshwater. Hamilton County Parks and WaterWays are focusing on reducing the impact of litter on our creeks and rivers by installing a floating litter boom to catch the trash coming down Citico Creek. Osprey Initiative will maintain the litter collection device for the first six months as part of County Parks funding and will evaluate the types of trash being collected so reductions can be made at the sources of the litter."
