The Chattanooga softball team will be put to the test this weekend, opening the Southern Conference season at home against UNC Greensboro.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Mocs beat the Spartans to claim the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament title.

Chattanooga leads the series 64-35 and is 33-20 against the Spartans at home. In the regular season, the Mocs lead 49-29.
UTC went 2-1 against UNCG in the regular season series sweeping Saturday’s double header before falling Sunday afternoon. In the SoCon Tournament held at UNCG, the Spartans knocked the Mocs into the consolation bracket, but Chattanooga came back and beat UNCG in back-to-back championship games to claim the title.
The Mocs put together a 14-game win streak in non-conference play, tying the fifth longest streak in program history. The team is hitting .305 led by Cam Cernuto hitting .393. She is 10-for-10 on steals and has scored 10 runs hitting lead off or second. Olivia Lipari has a team-best 10 doubles with 20 RBI and is hitting .364. Acelynn Sellers has a team-high seven home runs and second on the team with 23 RBI. Presley Williamson has six home runs and a team-best 24 runs batted in.
Chattanooga’s pitching has combined for 195 strikeouts and a .224 opponent batting average. Peja Goold is 15th in the NCAA for strikeouts with 105 in 81 innings pitched. She has a SoCon-best 1.56 ERA, 10 wins and five shutouts. Taylor Long is second on the team in strikeouts with 65 in 50.1 innings. She is 6-0 with a 3.62 ERA.
The Spartans lead the Southern Conference with a 22-7 mark and are on a six-game win streak. UNCG swept the Spiro Classic, went 3-1 in their own tournament and went 4-0 at the Charleston Southern Tournament. UNCG is hitting .336 with four hitting above .400. Kaylyn Belfield leads the team with a .479 batting average. Jorde Chartrand is second with a .409 and four home runs with 22 RBI. Grace Loftin is one of three Spartans with a team-best seven home runs and has 32 RBI with a .404 batting average.
In the circle, the Spartans have a combined 3.10 ERA led by Jorde Chartrand who is has a 1.71 ERA. She is 3-2 on the year in 11 appearances and nine starts with one complete game and a shutout. Salem Ward is 10-3 overall with a 2.15 ERA, five complete games and two shutouts.
