The Chattanooga Mocs are in 10th place after the opening 18 holes of the Chattanooga Classic. The Mocs shot 307 on a somewhat blustery day at the Honors Course in suburban Ooltewah. Chattanooga is part of an 8-team spread separated by just nine strokes between fourth through 12th place.

Giulia Foresta led the effort with a 3-over 75 which put her in a tie for 18th. Kera Healey joins her in the top 25 with her 76 tying for 24th. Violeta Fernandez-Tagle is another shot behind with 77, while Makenzie Cooper rounded out the team tally with 79. Nieves Martin’s 82 was the drop score, and Chloe Stevenazzi turned in 78 playing as an individual.

No. 10 North Carolina is the overall leader at 294. That’s one better than Wisconsin in second with Georgia sitting in third with 299. Duke’s Anna Cañado Espinal is the individual leader with 4-under 68.

The field plays 36 holes Saturday due to impending weather moving Sunday’s final round to Saturday afternoon. The shotgun start is at 8:45 a.m. Live scoring provided by walking scoring volunteers with each group via the scoreboard app on Clippd.

“I was really pleased for the most part with how we played this golf course," UTC head coach Colette Murray said. "There were a couple of holes that I was frustrated with because we knew how to approach them and didn't follow the game plan. Other than a a few holes where we let some shots bleed towards the end, it was a really good day.

“We're not disappointed. We still have 36 holes left, and this golf course is not an easy golf course. If we execute, then we could really climb up the leaderboard.”
