The Lee University softball team run-ruled the Shorter University Hawks twice on Wednesday afternoon 9-0 and 13-2 to snap a four game losing streak. Lee outhit Shorter 18-5 in the two combined games. With the two wins, Lee improved to 12-8.
The Lady Flames scored in the bottom of the first when a sacrifice fly from Alexa Scalzo scored Ana Macha.
Lee then scored all the other eight runs in the bottom of the third. Ava Perkins led the game off with a solo home run.
An Ana Macha single and a Nat Toups walk ,got two on base. Scalzo then drive on Macha with a single. Ryle Goodridge was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Javaria Smith had a RBI via a walk. After a pitching change, Hailey Simco singled to drive in Scalzo. Alyson Jarvi then had an RBI after being hit by a pitch. Perkins added two more RBI with a double. The final run came on a sacrifice fly by Kaelin Ault.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey earned her eighth win of the year. She went three innings, gave up two hits and struck out four. Alaina Watson threw the final two innings and struck out two.
Lee out hit Short 8-2 in game one. Perkins had three RBI while Scalzo had two.
Game 2
Lee scored in the bottom of the first in the second game as Hailey Simco came across home plate after an error by Shorter. The bottom of the second, Lee added four more runs. Jarvi was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Perkins then reached on an error. A steal and an error allowed to steal home. Kaylee Wilson was then walked. Ault drove in Perkins with a groundout. Then Macha reached on an error scoring Wilson in the process. The final run came on a Scalzo single to score Simco.
Ava Perkins hit a three-run home run in the third inning scoring Jarvi and Hayden Gardner. Shorter scored their only two runs of the game in the fifth to make it 8-2. Lee then ended the game in the fifth. After a Rylee Price walk and a Kadyn Smith single, Taryn Gibbs drove in a run with her first hit of the day. Scalzo singled to load the bases for the Lady Flames. The game ended when Gardner walked it off with a grand slam to give Lee the 13-2 win.
Madison Barnett got her second win of the season going three innings and giving up one hit while striking out one. Layne Bailey threw two innings in relief and gave up two runs on two hits.
The Lady Flames out hit Shorter 13 to three in the win while Shorter had four errors. Gardner had four RBI while Perkins had three giving her six in the double header.
Lee will stay at home to host Union University for a weekend Gulf South Conference series at Butler Field.
