The 2025 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship will be played Monday, April 14 through Wednesday, April 16, at the Solina Golf Club, a par-72, 6,098-yard course, in West Columbia, South Carolina.
This season’s tournament has a traditional format of one round per day over three days.
The league’s nine teams— The Citadel, ETSU, Furman, Mercer, UNC Greensboro, Samford, Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Wofford—will be competing for the SoCon tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
The individual medalist will also earn an automatic regional qualification if she is not on the winning team.
ETSU is the defending champion after winning the 2024 SoCon Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Bucs carded a 2-over-par 290 in last year’s final round, claiming the team title by 13 strokes over runner-up Samford. ETSU will be looking for its third team title in the last five seasons this week.
Furman’s Audrey Ryu owns five top 20 finishes this season, with her top performance coming at the Evie Odom Invitational back in October, when she came in fourth place. The Paladins sophomore is second in the league in stroke average this season at 72.72 per round.
Paced by Emilia Väistö’s 73.26 stroke average, Mercer enters the SoCon Championship with the lowest team stroke average at 73.68. The Bears finished in the top 10 in all, but one of their 11 tournaments played this season.
UNCG comes into the SoCon Championship with the best team score for a round this season, which was a 13-under 271. This second round performance from the Spartans set a single-round course record and program record at the Golf Week Fall Challenge hosted at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, back in September. Spartans’ senior Ava Romfo claimed the team’s lone medalist honors this season during the UNCG Collegiate in October.
Chattanooga will be seeking its first tournament title since 2014, which was the last of five straight championships for the program. The Mocs’ Violeta Fernandez-Tagle (73.00) and Kera Healey (74.46) are ranked tied for third and tenth, respectively, in stroke average this season among SoCon golfers.
Samford sophomore Gabi Nicastro, the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, owns a league-leading 72.68 stroke average. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Nicastro owns five individual first-place finishes this year, the latest coming at the Chris Banister Golf Classic on March 9-11.
Western Carolina completed the regular season with five top 10 finishes. The Catamounts are paced by Elizabeth Lohbauer, who leads the squad in stroke average at 75.68.
Wofford holds the most team wins across the league this season with two, after winning the Fripp Island Collegiate in November and Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate at the beginning of this month. The Terriers’ Bella Kent claimed medalist honors at the Mimosa Hills event, the sophomore’s first career win.
The Citadel finished in the top 10 in three tournaments this season. Bulldogs junior Naomi Huang shot the lowest round of the season for the squad, carding a 73 in the final round at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate on March 23.
Furman enters this year’s tournament as the No. 86 team in the Clippd rankings. Mercer (No. 87), Chattanooga (No. 106) and UNCG (No. 112) are the top four SoCon teams in the national rankings.
The Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship was first conducted in 1994. Furman owns the most team titles with 20, including the first nine, while Chattanooga has won five titles, all consecutively from 2010-14. Western Carolina (2003 and 2007) and ETSU (2021 and 2024) own two team titles each and former SoCon member College of Charleston (2006) boast one.
The Paladins have produced a league-best 19 individual medalists, while Chattanooga has seven and UNCG, Western Carolina, along with former members App State and College of Charleston, all having one apiece.
The tournament tees off with threesomes at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Live stats can be found here.
