The Chattanooga beach volleyball team now packs their sandals and sunscreen for the last tournament of the regular season in the final OVC Weekend at Morehead State.
The Sandy Mocs have continued to make waves in the OVC standings coming off of four-straight sweeps at last weekend’s Blazer Beach Bash, and UTC will now look to carry that momentum into a weekend in which the Mocs could clinch the program’s second consecutive OVC regular season title.
Chattanooga’s OVC title hopes currently reside in the hands of the Sandy Mocs with the team being able to clinch the regular season crown as early as Friday with a pair of UTC wins alongside a pair of Morehead State losses on the day.
It is much more likely, however, that the Mocs will have to wait until Saturday before officially clinching the championship and OVC Tournament No. 1 seed.
The tournament will open early on Friday, April 18 with UTC taking on Tennessee Tech at 8 a.m. ET, an OVC rival with whom Chattanooga has swept twice this season.
The Sandy Mocs will then have a couple of hours to prepare themselves before taking action again once more on Friday, this time against the Lindenwood Lions at 4 p.m ET. UTC has faced the Lions only once this season, which saw Chattanooga emerge with an impressive 4-1 victory.
The action continues on Saturday, April 19 with UTC kicking off the day against last-place Eastern Illinois (0-6 OVC) at 2 p.m. ET. Clashing earlier this season, Chattanooga strung together full-court efforts to win 5-0 over EIU.
Chattanooga’s last match of the weekend will then come at 6 p.m ET against the tournament host Morehead State in a match that will be a battle of the OVC’s current first and second place squads.
The Sandy Mocs look to make a statement against the Eagles in what could be a match that decides the regular season champion for the Ohio Valley Conference. UTC handed MSU its lone conference loss earlier this year, sweeping the Eagles 5-0 in Martin.
