In 2017, GPS assumed ownership of the Cadek Conservatory of Music from UTC, offering lessons on the school’s campus and later at The Bright School and McCallie. In a decision approved by the Board of Trustees, GPS will conclude its partnership with Cadek and close the program at all locations on May 30.
In alignment with the school’s strategic and master plans, GPS invests in its programs, people and spaces.
“We’re proud of the progress we’ve made across academics, arts, athletics, leadership, and character development—all rooted in our mission to lift up each girl in mind, body, and spirit so that she is seen, known, and empowered to use her voice,” Head of School Megan Cover says. “Now is the time for us to focus intentionally on bolstering our internal music program as we continue to enhance our robust offerings in the fine and performing arts. We are grateful for the community’s support of Cadek during its time at GPS.”
The arts have been a cornerstone of GPS since its founding in 1906, and visiting artists from around the world inspire students to explore and deepen their passion for the arts. Since 2022, the school’s music program has experienced a resurgence with the addition of Choral Director/Music Teacher Emily Tousek and Director of Band & Orchestra Kelly Ballard. Today, both GPS choir and orchestra are growing in size and strength from the middle to the upper school, said officials.
