The GFWC Valamont Women's Club has gotten donations to build more than 110 community benches for bus stops around town. Hamilton County Schools have been building them — Sequoyah High School (30+), East Ridge High School (15), Harrison Bay High School (10) and Brainerd High School (5). They also paint them bright colors.
Home Depot at Northgate has partnered with the project, getting supplies ready and donations of paint. Elder Ace Hardware has also contributed supplies.
Corey Evatt, a member on the CARTA Board, places them where they are most needed.
Different individuals and organizations from all over the U.S. have paid for the benches — First Christian Church on McCallie has paid for 20 benches and had a painting event for Lent on Saturday.
Wood and paint was delivered to Sequoyah High School last Monday morning for 16 more benches to be made.
