Ronald “Ron” Lavon Smith, 81, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1943, in Marianna, W.V., and grew up in the North Georgia area where he attended Lakeview High School. He then joined the army and was a Vietnam veteran who received numerous medals and commendations. After serving in the war, he started his own business as a carpenter. Ron was a skilled pool player who was known for traveling around the area to tournaments and winning. He was also known for fixing everything, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. His world revolved around his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he was always there for them, never missing one of their events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Martha Smith; siblings, Roger Smith, Donald Smith, and Anita Smith; son, Randy Lavon Smith, and daughter Rhonda Richardson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his granddaughter, Tiffany (Chris) Gann; grandson, David (Kristina) Hamill; great grandchildren, Devan Hinton and Kade Gann; sister, Joyce Bridges; son in law, Joe Richardson, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.–12p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel at 833 Chickamauga Ave., Rossville, Ga.

A graveside service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 27, at 12:30 p.m.
