Barbara Ruth Cockburn Stinson went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was actively involved and enjoyed participating in the ladies’ groups at Fort Oglethorpe and Ringgold First Baptist churches. Ruth retired from the Chattanooga City Employees Credit Union after many years as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed travel and community involvement.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Mary Cockburn, by her husband of 53 years, Richard Dennis Stinson, by her brothers, Harold Cockburn and Jack Cockburn, and by her sister, Margaret Williams.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Ryan Stinson, Kari Stinson and Megan Evans, by her sisters, Mary Lou Skidmore and Shirley Gribble, and by her brother, Jimmy Cockburn, and by several nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.

Ruth will be deeply missed, but her family celebrates her life with confidence that she is in a better place.

Family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. on Friday and 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Patrick Everett officiating. Interment will be private.

Ruth will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ringgold First Baptist Church or the Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church in her honor.
