Betty Jo Thompson
Betty Jo Thompson, 94, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Born in Sherwood, Tn., Mrs. Thompson was a resident of Chattanooga for the past 73 years, Mrs. Thompson was former owner and operator of The Sportsman on Tunnel Boulevard from 1963-1972.
She later retired from the Volunteer Ammunition Plant and Planters Lifesavers after many years of service.
She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church on Ashland Terrace where she was involved in the The Primetimers Group and the Wednesday Bible study. She held membership with the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1289. She was also an avid bowler for many years and was a member of the Red Bank exercise group.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Thompson; son, Michael Ray Thompson; parents, Walter and Louise Garner; sisters, Thelma Moore and Ethel Stephens; brothers, Walter Garner Jr. and Charles Garner; and grandmother, Alice Simmons.
Special thanks to Debbie Stephens, Laura Bean, Jerry and Grace Garner, and Kim Garner for all of their love and help during this time.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Janelle Thompson, Chattanooga; brother, Jerry (Grace) Garner, Decherd, TN; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Drew Bunting officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
