Samuel Carthel Mathis, 75, of Soddy Daisy, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Sam spent many years as a heavy equipment operator with East Tennessee Grading and retired from Wright Brothers Construction.

He was born on June 29, 1949, to the late Herman Mathis and Elizabeth Mathis-Mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Scott Mathis, son in law, Patrick Weaver, grandson, Patrick Weaver Jr., and his sister, Alice Louise Mathis.

Sam is survived by the love of his life and wife of 40 years, Sherry Mathis; his daughters: April (Jeff) Weaver-Haynes, Jennifer (Chuck) Harvey, Sheila (Matt) Jetton, Ruthie (Sherman) Green; his brother, David (Pamela) Mathis; his sister, Mary (Danny) Moore; his grandchildren, Kayla (Joseph) Newhouse, Savana (Shelby) Wooden, Chase Harvey, Tanner (Madison) Harvey, Elizabeth Jetton, Charlotte Jetton and Avery Green; and great grandson, Will Newhouse. He also leaves behind several, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life Service for Sam will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
