Jerry Summers
There appears to a minor disagreement between certain members of the Gig City ruling body seeking a method to fund the question of how to give the fire and police personnel salary increases and also raise and spend money on other projects?
Such discussions should recognize that there is often a goal of “political self preservation” by some (but not all) seat sitters in local, state, and national government.
However, that subject goes into a topic well beyond the intention of explaining what are “line items in a budget”.
One definition follows: “A line item in a budget is a detailed and specific category for tracking either Income or Expenditures. Instead of broad categories, a line item breaks down financial Inflows and Outflows into more manageable and understandable components, providing a clear picture of where money comes from and goes.”
Under the current proposals, the potential pending property tax increases (if any), a specific line item investigation might have the effect of eliminating any “pork” (not Bar-B-Que) above the level requested for the men and women who guard our streets/persons and fight fires in the neighborhoods.
The Ad Hoc Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025 (tomorrow) at 1:30 PM in the J.B. Collins Room at the City Council Building behind City Hall at 10th and Lindsay Street by at least 3 interested non-term limited Council person will study the individual items listed in the title to this article!
Let the political infighting begin!
