Humane Educational Society wrapped up their first week of surgeries following the soft opening of their new low-cost spay/neuter clinic to the public. By providing affordable spay and neuter options, HES hopes to decrease the number of unwanted litters, as well as decrease the number of animals that require sheltering and the number of strays in the community. I am writing to express my outrage and deep concern regarding the proposed hot mix asphalt plant at the intersection of Thrasher Pike and Highway 27 — in close proximity to Ivy Academy (a public school), North Chickamauga Creek, and the North Chickamauga Creek State Natural Area. The fact that a public meeting on this proposal is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13th at 9:00 AM — with little to no notice — is unacceptable.
