2) CALLAWAY CONTINUES MARVELOUS MONDAYS INTO 2003

PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (1/30/03) – Due to its popularity in 2002, Marvelous Mondays will continue at Callaway in 2003.

On Marvelous Mondays up to five guests who enter The Gardens at Callaway on a Monday occupying the same vehicle as a child five and under receive free admission.

Callaway began giving free admission to children age five and under many years ago. A man named Ben Fairless was the inspiration for this practice. Fairless, a friend of Callaway founder Cason Callaway, shared that the most beautiful thing he had ever seen was a pot of six red geraniums on his mother’s kitchen windowsill. Fairless’ mother had passed away when he was six years old. Callaway could tell that the flowers meant a lot to his friend and had been a significant influence on his becoming a caring person. Callaway said many times, “I am building this Garden so that children will have a chance to see something beautiful by the age of six. It may just have meaning in their lives as well.”

Marvelous Mondays participants will receive a special brochure about the program and the history of the Gardens. They will have an opportunity to register for a monthly drawing to win complimentary passes for a future visits to the Gardens.

“Our hope is that everyone will continue to use this opportunity to spend quality time in nature with a child so the youngster can see something beautiful and meaningful,” said Howard H. “Bo” Callaway, chairman of the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation™ Board of Trustees. “My brother (Cason Callaway Jr.) and I also want to honor Dad’s vision. He was a true visionary. Creating an extensive public garden from depleted cotton fields in a rural area had never been done successfully. Millions of people have found respite and recreation here and have created cherished memories at Callaway over the past 50 years. Dad showed that it could be done.”
