Festival Draws Top Storytellers To Pigeon Forge

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.— Smoky Mountains Storytelling Festival returns to Pigeon Forge for the 13th season Feb. 5-7. The popular event celebrates the traditional mountain art of spinning tales for fun and education, and includes performances and workshops by some of the nation’s top storytellers.

Sheila Kay Adams shares stories about her childhood in a small North Carolina mountain community. Her book Come Go Home With Me won the 1997 North Carolina Historical Society award for historical fiction. Husband Jim Taylor is an accomplished musician who combines his love for traditional music and history.

Steven James holds a Master’s Degree in Storytelling. Best known for his zany, animated style and masterful use of audience involvement, James is one of the most sought-after family entertainers in the Southeast.

Joe Wos presents “Once Upon a Toon,” blending original stories with live cartoon illustration.

Fourteen-year-old Tamarind King travels from New Mexico to appear as the reigning National Youth Storytelling Olympics Torchbearer.

Workshops and concerts will take place at the Grand Resort Convention Center. Weekend passes for convention center activities are $15 for ages 18 and older, free to ages 17 and younger.

Haunts ‘n’ Haints Trolley Tales combine storytelling with an evening ride aboard a Pigeon Forge trolley. Trolley Tales are $3 charge, and tickets are available at 865-429-7350.
