Gardner Byron Scott, 83, of Harrison, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in a local hospital.

Born in Bridgeport, Al., to the late Fred and Ruby Scott, Mr. Scott attended Brainerd Middle School and City High School where he was an avid football player.

He was called into the Church of Christ Ministry at the age of 16 at church Bible camp and has served as minister at Hartwell Church of Christ in Georgia, Louisville Church of Christ in Alabama, Candler Church of Christ in North Carolina, Cherokee Church of Christ in North Carolina, Suck Creek Church of Christ, Sale Creek Church of Christ, Rocky Springs Church of Christ in Bridgeport, and Hamilton Avenue Church of Christ in South Pittsburg, Tn.

Mr. Scott studied at the Alabama Christian School of Religion.

At the time of his death he was a member of North Hamilton Church of Christ in Soddy, Tn..

Mr. Scott was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp then continued his military service with the Army and TN Air National Guard and was a member of the 241st Engineering Installation Squadron.

He held memberships with the Brainerd Masonic Lodge 736 F&AM, and the York Rite.

He retired from the State of Tennessee Probation and Parole Office.

He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Willard and Gloria Lane; and two brothers, Raymond and Hoyt Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joy Scott; two daughters, Melissa (Billy) Taliaferro, McMinnville, TN and Melinda (John) Heilker, Hixson; two grandsons, Chris (Amanda) Taliaferro and Sigi Heilker; brother-in-law, WC Lane, East Ridge; special niece and nephew, Kimberly Highfield and Buddy Lane; along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Minister David Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
