The Moccasin Bend Golf Course was under new management today after 40 years of being headed by Wes Brown.
Jim Haslam said a number of changes will be made at the course that is owned by the city and county. But he said the staff and pricing will remain the same for the time being.
He said there will be a new fleet of golf carts, new signage, cleaning and other upgrades.
Mr. Haslam said the golf course will eventually get all new greens of Crenshaw bent grass to USGA standards. He said the course changes will not be until next July.
The City Council and the County Commission acted recently to make the management change after putting the job out for proposals.
Mr. Brown was one of six bidders, but it was awarded to James Haslam Sr. and James Haslam Jr. of HMS Golf.
The Haslams are from Woodstock, Ga.
The lease is for 15 years and is due to bring in $1.9 million for the city and county, who own the public course.
HMS Golf operates over 30 golf courses in the Southeast.
A committee studied the proposals prior to selecting HMS.
