2006 Individual Artist Grant Program Announced

  • Monday, December 19, 2005

Allied Arts announced the Individual Artist Grant Program for 2006. This grant supports the creative work of Chattanooga’s individual artists and recognizes their accomplishments as well as acknowledging the role that individual artists play in contributing to the economic vitality and quality of life of the greater Chattanooga area, said officials.

The grant program defines artists as those individuals who, whether by education, experience, or natural talent, engage in a particular art form or discipline that provides an artistic service to the community.

“Last year’s inaugural individual artists grant program received over 25 grant applications that amounted to requests of over $95,000,” stated Laurie Shipley, Allied Arts director of marketing and community relations. “Due to the overwhelming success of this program, Allied Arts expects to receive a record number of applications and funds requested by individual artists for their artistic projects for 2006.”

The funding will range from $500 to $5,000 per application/project. Request may be fully or partially funded, and applicants are not required to match the grant that is awarded. An artist over the age of 18 who has actively participated in their artistic discipline is eligible to apply. The applicant must live with a 50 mile radius of Chattanooga; therefore, residents of North Georgia and Northeast Alabama are also encouraged to apply. Full-time undergraduate students enrolled in any arts degree program are not eligible for this program.

An orientation meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 4 p.m. in the Allied Arts’ conference room located at 406 Frazier Ave. in the Northshore. The application deadline is Friday, March 10, at 5 p.m.

Allied Arts strongly encourages all interested and eligible individual artists to attend the orientation meeting, even if they were a recipient of an Individual Artist grant in 2005.

Grant notification will be in June 2006. The grant guidelines and application can be found on Allied Arts’ website, www.alliedartschattanooga.org. Click on the “Artists Services” icon and then visit the “Individual Artists” icon.
