Mrs. Ruby Harp Scealf, 85, of Rossville, died Thursday, January 17, 2006 after a brief illness.
As a young woman she worked at the Davenport Hosiery Mill. Affectionately known as “Grandmammy," she loved flower gardening and was an avid Braves fan. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was the last charter member of Dry Valley Baptist Church in Rossville where she was a member for 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Scealf; her parents, John and Beulah Ellis Harp; brother, Junior Harp; “Aunt Bennie” Whitley; and her beloved grandson, Cale Scealf.
She is survived by her son, David Scealf of Rossville; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sheila Scealf, Darrel and Virginia Scealf, Bill and Sandra D. Scealf, all of High Point; sister, Ruth Harp Kinsey (Hark); brother, Jack L. Harp, Sr. (Melba); half brother, Larry Harp of Rossville; grandchildren, Tina Newsome of Soddy Daisy, Russell Curtis of Ringgold, Louie Scealf of Menlo, Jessica Rymer, Cody Scealf, Nathan Scealf, and Amber Scealf, all of High Point; three great-grandchildren, Douglas Houston Scealf, Jarrett and Anna Curtis.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Cloyd Bell and Reverend Terry Burns officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lookout Cemetery with Russell Curtis, Gary Kinsey, Jeff Rymer, Bruce King, Jackie Harp, Louie, Cody, and Nathan Scealf serving as pallbearers.
Donations may be made in her honor to the Dry Valley Baptist Church at Dry Valley Road Rossville, GA 30741.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
