A Highcrest Drive man has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder after police said he twice fired at two females.
Rick Wichman, 48, is also charged with two counts of especially aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possesion of marijuana for sale, obstruction of a roadway, tampering with evidence, filing a false police report and felony possession of a weapon.
Police said Wichman on Sept. 28 reported that Katie Reynolds and a woman named Brittney had stolen a pistol, a garage door opener, two alarm keys, a set of house keys and six butterfly knives.
Officers said the next day, Myrna Parham, who lives near Wichman, said while she was dyeing her hair she heard a loud commotion outside involving vehicles. She said she went out and saw Wichman in his silver Dodge truck blocking the roadway. She said a green sedan occupied by two women pulled up and words were exchanged.
Mrs. Parham said she then heard two loud bangs and saw Wichman fire two pistol shots at the sedan. She said the sedan then drove off. She said when her husband got home, he went out and found two empty shell casings where the shooting had taken place.
When officers went to the Wichman home at 1415 Highcrest, they spotted the women in the green sedan pulling in. The vehicle had bullet holes in the side of the passenger door.
Ms. Reynolds and Brittney Sisson said on Sept. 27, Wichman had shot at them in the basement of his residence - almost hitting them both. Ms. Reynolds said after the first shooting she had gone back to the residence to remove the garage door opener and other items "to hopefully be safe as she removed her items" from the residence.
She said the second shooting took place when she came back to return the items.
Police said they searched the Wichman residence and found a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a loaded .40-caliber Glock pistol with two loaded magazines, numerous loaded magazines for other calibers and pistols, and shotgun shells.
They also found felony quantities of marijuana, electronic scales, bungs, an assortment of drug paraphernalia, $481.25 in cash and a cell phone.
Police said Wichman was convicted in 1992 of attempted first-degree murder and was not supposed to have any weapons.
He is held at the county jail under $540,000 in bonds.
Wichman is due in General Sessions Court next Wednesday.
