Michael Shadden
Charges were bound to the Grand Jury on Thursday against Michael Shadden, who authorities say was involved in an Oct. 3 home invasion on Pattentown Road in Summit when he and a Central High School student were shot. The student, 16-year-old Isaac Robinson, died.
Shadden, 19, remains at the County Jail under a $205,000 bond.
He was on probation at the time of his arrest and that was revoked. He had pleaded guilty on July 22 to possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Det. Ed Merritt said Shadden was actually involved in two home invasions at the same trailer at 3933 Pattentown Road that authorities say is a drug house.
He said in the first one on Sept. 20, Shadden was tackled and beat up by those inside. However, Jessie Devries of Pine Street in Ooltewah was shot during that incident.
Det. Merritt said while checking out the second incident, he found a medical slip in Shadden's vehicle referring to treatment for injuries from Sept. 20.
He said those at the trailer did not call police after either incident. He said the trailer residents denied there was a shooting Sept. 20, but he said officers found a large amount of blood near the front of the residence.
He said Devries told him he had been at the Electric Cowboy, then went to the trailer to drink some Gray Goose vodka. He said they were watching a movie early in the morning when some masked men burst in.
The detective said Shadden claimed he and Robinson had gone to the residence to buy some marijuana. He said they were shot as they stood outside. The detective said he found a number of bullet holes in the trailer and there were three shell casings inside.
James Bryan Miller fired at Shadden, Robinson and a third youth. He was first charged with criminal homicide, but it was dismissed on grounds of self-defense.
Shadden appeared before General Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck.
