Helen Virginia Mikel Thompson, celebrated her new birthday on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 when she went to be with her Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ.
She is celebrating with her husband, the late Delma Douglas Thompson who passed away on May 4, 1975 and her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Mikel of Cleveland, Tn. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Mikel Geren and Dorothy Mikel Ledford, both of Cleveland.
Survivors include her daughters, Merriam Calhoun and Beverly Standifer of Knoxville; three grandchildren, English Standifer, Jennifer Gilmour and Doug Calhoun; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Grant and Patrick Calhoun and Caleb and Noah Standifer; one sister, Wilma McConnell of Cleveland, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, in the Ridgedale Room at Ridgedale Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cross Memorial at Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
