Clara Margaret “Peggy” Martin Longmire, 86, of Knoxville, formerly of Soddy Daisy, died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Peggy was born and grew up in Denver, Co., where she attended Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School. She met her husband of 64 years, James W. Longmire Sr., while he was stationed at Lowery Field Air Base during World War II.
They were married in 1946 when she moved with him to Daisy. In Daisy, she was active in the Woman’s Club and supporting her children’s school activities. She lovingly shared her talents with the Daisy Methodist Church throughout her life. She was a faithful Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir and was especially loved for her poetry and storytelling skills.
In 1968 she and Jim moved to Lookout Mountain where they lived until 1991. During that time she was active in the Lookout Mountain United Methodist Church. After Jim’s retirement, they returned to Soddy Daisy where they lived until 2005. At her death, she resided at Shannondale Healthcare Center in Knoxville.
Peggy is survived by her husband, James W. Longmire Sr.; daughter,
Susan (Al) Yanno of Knoxville; son, Jim (Rosemary) of Murfreesboro; brother, William S. (Jeanne) Martin of Dallas, Tx.; two grandsons, Ben (Katie) Longmire of Atlanta, Matt Longmire of Boca Raton, Fl.; one great-grandson, Jackson Wyatt Longmire, Atlanta.
Graveside services will be on Monday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Card Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, at Daisy United Methodist Church with services at 6 p.m., with Rev. Don Jones officiating.
