Bingo. That’s what you scream when you have 4 corners or 5 spots in a row. That’s also what you yell when you get two good musical acts in a row. Last week, I featured a great local band – the Cadillac Saints. This week, I hit pay-dirt again with Backwater Still.

Riverhouse Pub booked Backwater Still last Friday night, so I took the opportunity to enjoy a band I haven’t heard before. Lest I digress, let’s mention the food. Great fish, sandwiches, burgers and a friendly staff make for a great evening. With a view of the downtown skyline and the fireworks display at the Lookouts, Riverhouse Pub is a nice place to listen to live music.

Backwater Still is a 4-piece band, configured with 3 acoustic guitars and a dude playing a Cajon. (Ca hone = a wooden box played as a drum) Couple some good guitar work, excellent vocals, and a wide song selection, Backwater Still could play in any club in town. The crowd loved them, and I did too. And, I’ll tell you one more thing; these guys had fun playing, too. Check em’ out at by clicking right here, or better yet, go see them live. They will be at Magoo’s in East Ridge this Friday for a free show at 8 p.m., by the way.

Saturday will be a great day for music at Chattanooga School For Arts & Sciences (CSAS), as Schoolhouse Rocks come to the 3rd Street school with No Big Deal Band, Sterchi Brothers Blues Band, Cadillac Saints, and The River City Red Hots performing on stage. There will be a Dixieland Parade at noon and the bands take the stage at 1 p.m. Concessions are available, and the entire event is but $5, and kids under 5 years old are free.

Bob’s Pick-o-the week is Opposite Box and Axis One at The Riverhouse Pub on Frazier Ave. Opposite Box won last year’s big Battle Of The Bands contest!

Bob’s Pick-o-the-weekend is so difficult. A new band, with great players is at Riverhouse Pub –Soul Kracka. One of my favorites, Sweet Georgia Sound is at The Chattanooga Market this Sunday. The Tim Hughes Quartet is at Blue Orleans Creole Restaurant on Amnicola Highway Friday night. Schoolhouse Rocks is a cool event with some of the town’s very best. Add to that the other great bands playing throughout Chattanooga this week, and it’s a real humdinger.
