Over 40 current students and graduates of the GPS Class of 2010 have received Advanced Placement awards from the College Board in recognition of their achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement exams taken in May. The GPS honorees include two National AP Scholars and Tennessee's State Female AP Scholar.
Ioana Florea, now a freshman at Harvard University, was named a State Scholar. The designation of the State AP Scholar award is granted to one male and one female student in each state. Ms. Florea took 15 AP courses at GPS and scored perfect 5’s on 13 of them.
She and Taylor Dickinson, now at Vanderbilt, were recognized as National AP Scholars for earning average scores or 4 or higher on a 5-point scale on all exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more exams.
An additional 11 students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Ms. Florea, Ms. Dickinson, Nina Appareddy, Danielle Chirumbole, Shelby DeWeese, Emily Dilbeck, Jami Haskins, Aileen Johnson, Layne Morrison, Carolyn Pearigen and Claire Samuels.
Twelve students received the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These designees include Hutton Baird, Sarah Davis, Morgan Elliott, Caroline Hetzel, Laura Higbee, Payton Leech, Colleen Mahn, Lucy Morel, Abby Morgan, Jaya Todai, Rebecca Tull and Julianne Wilson.
The AP Scholar Award was earned by 19 girls who completed three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are Alizeh Ahmad, Norquata Allen, Marit Brocker, Eleanor Epstein, Melanie Goldberg, Bronte Goodhue, Sarah Gossett, Alexis Grace Jennings, Emma Kellum, Louise McCallie, Anna Moravec, Saba Munir, Mary Alice Murphy, Julia Nelson, Laura Newberry, Anna Nickel, Chelsea Owens, Anna-Carson Rimer and Maria Stratienko.
