The County Schools are considering a new charter school application.
The New Consortitium of Law and Business last year started a charter school in downtown Memphis and wants to expand to Chattanooga.
Officials said, "The Consortium operates as a center of excellence in law and business education. Our students are equipped to take an active approach to master the learning process in an environment where Master Teachers serve as facilitators and advisers of the process."
The school opened in Memphis with 30 seventh graders.
The founder, Tommie Henderson, also founded Tennessee’s first and largest charter school, Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering.
School administrators are studying the application and will make a recommendation to the school board.
Other charter schools here are the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and Ivy Academy.
The board is also looking at a new cell phone policy.
Chairman Mike Evatt said he is seeking a policy "with some teeth in it but at the same time is not punitive."
He questioned whether the schools should take a student's IPhone away for a month.
Mr. Evatt said he will remain chairman of the facilities committee.
Chip Baker will head finance, and David Testerman will be over a new technology committee.
