The Tennessee Valley Authority has donated $5,000 to the Evansville Fire Department and $1,000 to the Rhea County Domestic Violence Council in support of the programs and services they bring to the community.
The funds for the Evansville Fire Department will be used to purchase new hoses, water nozzles and general equipment. Approximately $2,500 will go to the repair of the department's ladder truck. Evansville Fire Department serves the central part of Rhea County, which includes Rhea County High School.
The funds for the Rhea County Domestic Violence Council will be used to teach elementary, middle and high schools students the many forms of domestic violence encountered during and after school hours including bullying and teen dating abuse.
"TVA believes in supporting requests that address specific needs like public safety and education, and which positively impact the communities we serve," said Nancy Mitchell, TVA Valley Relations program manager. "This project does that by directly responding to a safety concern in the area."
The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states at prices below the national average. TVA, which receives no taxpayer money and makes no profits, also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
