Chattanooga Charter School Of Excellence Opens Aug. 10

  • Thursday, February 24, 2011

Chattanooga’s first elementary charter school is set to open its doors to students on Aug. 10. The Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence is now accepting applications for students entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Space is limited, so the school is encouraging parents to apply early.

The vision of Chattanooga Charter is to integrate a rigorous liberal arts curriculum that is modeled on the “Core Knowledge” philosophy. The school will strive to promote individual creativity, excitement, and motivation through rigorous instruction. The school pledges to uphold high standards for student achievement, accountability, character development and community involvement in order to cultivate long-term academic success.

Foreign language and the fine arts will be an integral part of the curriculum at all grade levels. This uniform school will separate boys and girls into a single-gender instructional classroom environment.

Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence will provide transportation for students who live more than two miles from the site.

The charter school signed a 10-year lease with the Eastgate Mall, and will move into the space which was previously occupied by the Henry YMCA, on April 1. Currently the school is utilizing office space at the Eastgate Mall in Suite B12. Parents may stop by to pick up and drop off applications.

Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence is now hiring. The Board of Directors began interviewing teacher candidates last December. They hope to attract the best educators to teach the “students of excellence.” The Board recently extended employment offers to a few educators, but is still searching for a few more.

The school’s founder, Mrs. Marcia Griffin and the Board of Directors of Chattanooga Charter are still searching for a headmaster or headmistress who will lead the school.

For information on how to qualify to become a student, a volunteer, or a community partner with Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence, call 521-0402, or visit www.chattanoogacharter.com, or stop by their temporary office location inside the Eastgate Mall at Suite B12.
