Reggie White, Howard HS to be Honored by Pro Football HOF

Howard High School alum and Pro and College football hall of famer Reggie White will be honored along with Howard HS on Monday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the school as part of "Hometown Hall of Famers" sponsored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance Company. 

The "Hometown Hall of Famers" is a national program honoring the hometown roots of the sport's greatest coaches, players and contributors with special ceremonies and plaque dedication events in local communities 

White, who died in Dec.

2004 at the age of 43, starred in basketball and football and Howard before earning football All-American and SEC Player of the Year honors in 1983 at Tennessee.  

One of the game's best ever defensive ends, White was 10-time first team All-Pro, led the Green Bay Packers to the XXXI Super Bowl title (1996 season) and also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Carolina Panthers.

His 17-year-pro career began with the Memphis Steamboats in the USFL (two seasons) prior to his NFL career (1985-2000).

The Chattanooga native was two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year (1987-88).

"The entire Howard High School community is excited that the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate want to recognize our school and Reggie White," said Sandra Smith, an educational assistant at Howard. "It will be a great day for our community and Chattanooga."
