Luis Velez
Luis Omegar Velez, 61, of Ringgold, died on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home.
He was born Dec. 27, 1952 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
Mr. Velez was member of Collegedale Spanish-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans Association.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
His father, Omegar Velez and grandmother, Monserrate Crespo preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Nieves Velez; mother, Julia Hernandez of Camuy, Puerto Rico; children, Yesenia (Joaquin) Velez of Puerto Rico; Orlando (Jeanenne) Montoya of Washington, DC; Zenia (Robert) Cabrera of Cleveland; Charles Velez of Ringgold; Luis Velez, Jr. of Bridgeport, Ct.; brother, Hilberto Santiago of Camuy, Puerto Rico; and grandchildren, Adriana Rivera, Miguel Rivera; Caragan Cabrera, and Lilly Cabrera.
Graveside memorial services with full military honors will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, at 3 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Joel Barrios officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 4-8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel.
