Grace Episcopal To Display Works Of Artist Virginia Skipper

  • Friday, March 7, 2014
An exhibit of the works of artist Virginia Skipper are now being featured at Grace Episcopal Church, 20 Belvoir Ave.

While a few spring blossoms have begun to poke their hopeful heads out of the soil outdoors, a whole garden-full have sprung into flower on Grace’s walls, thanks to artist Virginia Skipper. A former nursing-school instructor, Ms Skipper turned well-honed skills of dexterity, acute observation, and appreciation for nuances into a collection of lovely paintings on canvas, paper, and on porcelain.
Her naturalistic works show her reverence for beauty, with a focus on flowers and particularly on roses. Whether she works in oils, watercolors, or acrylics, she manages to portray the loveliness she sees with warmth and an almost musical essence. Her show will hang through April.

The artist’s appreciation for flowers has led her not only to paint but to teach floral workshops. As a nationally-accredited flower-show judge, she travels the South to evaluate shows of conventional and abstract floral designs in the mediums of collage, mobiles, assemblages, and kinetics.

Ms. Skipper is a member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society; Civic Arts League, Inc.; Association for Visual Arts, Chattanooga; Tennessee Porcelain Arts Association and International Artists, Inc. She has sold works to corporations as well as private individuals and welcomes inquiries about her works. She can be reached at 867-9555.
