Lula Lake Land Trust Announces Founders Weekend Oct. 3-4

  • Thursday, October 1, 2015

Lula Lake Land Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the natural and historic landscapes surrounding Rock Creek and Bear Creek, announces it’s Founders Weekend celebration. Events will take place at Lula Lake Land Trust on Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. The entrance will close at 4 p.m. each day.

The Trust is located at 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain. Admission is free, with donations greatly appreciated. Visitors attending the events should enter through the main gate and proceed to the parking area. In addition to scheduled special activities, the Trust’s six mile network of trails will be open for exploration. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch, and grills and tables are available for use at the lake area. Handicap-accessible parking is available.

Since it’s inception in 1994, the Lula Lake Land Trust sought to create a conservation corridor to protect the cultural importance and pristine water quality of the Rock Creek and Bear Creek watersheds, and to provide research, education, and low-impact recreation services to the greater Chattanooga community.

“Founders Weekend is a special event that we hope reminds all of our guests that conservation is a long term endeavor to keep important landscapes in their natural state for everyone to enjoy – forever,” said Mike Pollock, executive director of the Land Trust. “But, I do wonder what Bobby Sr. and Helen would think of people doing yoga on the bluff or by the lake. And I also wonder how people will enjoy Lula Lake 20 years from now on Founder’s Weekend.”

Ongoing activities (Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m.)
Trails open for hiking, biking, and trail running.  Pets welcome on a leash. Self-guided nature walk and scavenger hunt materials will be provided.
